It’s Okay to Cry Over SOPHIE’s Latest Single (but Let’s Not Forget Her Greatest Hits)
Honestly, it was difficult for me to write this. I mean come on, how could anyone ever slander the queen of PC Music? …But there’s a first time for everything. I can’t lie, SOPHIE just didn’t deliver on her latest single, “It’s Okay to Cry,” which is essentially a sub-par synth pop tune that simply just doesn’t cut it. The video is somewhat entertaining, but truthfully it’s nothing special. As a longtime SOPHIE fan, I’m at a loss for words. I suppose all we can do is hope that she bounces back with an absolute banger, but in the meantime, let’s look back at some of her greatest hits.
An obvious fan favorite, “LEMONADE” goes hard. Feeling down? Put on LEMONADE. Feeling good? Put on LEMONADE. Childhood pet just die? LEMONADE. This song will never not get me hype. Unfortunately, when I saw SOPHIE live, she didn’t play it and that was… beyond heartbreaking. But it’s okay because its existence is enough for me to appreciate her till the end of time.
- “JUST LIKE WE NEVER SAID GOODBYE”
This song is the PC anthem to any tough break up… why ugly cry while listening to Adele or Frank Ocean when you can bump this all full volume and just bop, effectively mending your broken heart and giving you the confidence to find yourself a major upgrade (this method is foolproof).
DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THIS SONG. “Eeehhh” is groovy as hell and seriously doesn’t get enough credit for how catchy it is. The only thing this song lacks is lyrics, but that’s okay because I’m living for it.
This is probably one of my all-time favorite SOPHIE songs. While some of her other bops are more of an acquired taste, you can’t deny that “MSMSMSM” is one of the greatest PC songs to ever grace this planet. There have been times where I’ve almost snapped my neck going HAM to this fire track.
- “9 (After Coachella)” feat. MØ & SOPHIE
Okay, I know this technically isn’t a SOPHIE song, but she’s featured and that’s good enough for me. This Cashmere Cat x MØ x SOPHIE collab is a dream come true, and SOPHIE’s signature beat drops and high pitched, distorted sounds absolutely slay, per usual.
While “It’s Okay To Cry” is somewhat disappointing, I trust that SOPHIE will restore faith in humanity and bless us with the bangers we deserve.
And if you have no idea what you just read, you can get hip to PC Music culture by listening to the playlist I’ve made featuring some of my favorite tracks from various PC Music legends.
