Indiana Women’s Basketball Falls to Butler for the First Time Since 2018-19 Season

Despite the sea of crimson and cream taking over Hinkle Fieldhouse, the Hoosiers couldn’t ride the wave to a victory as Butler defeated Indiana 56-46, pushing the Hoosiers to 1-2 on this young season.

The inability to score late put the knife in the Hoosiers, as they go 4:56 without a point before scoring a garbage time basket with 2 seconds remaining. It was another game plagued by turnovers as Indiana coughed it up 16 times. It’s the first time since February of 2022 that Indiana has lost consecutive games.

Shay Ciezki, the Penn State transfer, led the team in multiple categories with 11 points and 4 assists, while Sydney Parrish had a tough night down low, going 3-12 from the field with 7 points. Parrish managed to lead the team in rebounding, corralling 8.

Indiana plays host to #24 Stanford on Sunday afternoon in Assembly Hall.

For Butler, Senior standout Caroline Strande led the team in points, tallying 14 and shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs came into this game 2-0 after narrowly escaping Milwaukee last Saturday in overtime.

This win brought no shortage of emotion for the Bulldogs. Coach Austin Parkinson was looking for this signature win in his third year at Butler, and he certainly got it tonight.

Butler travels to Vanderbilt (2-0) on Sunday.
