Artist RMR (pronounced "Rumour") has made a name for himself as a genre-bending artist. It is difficult to classify RMR as a rapper, country artist, or anything in between, but one thing is for sure – RMR is definitely an entertainer. Even from behind the ski mask that keeps his identity a secret, his smile and energy shine through.
RMR first reached stardom with his 2020 viral hit “Rascal.” The song combines “God Bless the Broken Road,” a country hit popularized by Rascal Flatts, with trap beats and RMR’s notes of a cappella. This unique fusion captivated audiences online. Within the same year of “Rascal,” RMR released his first album, DRUG DEALING IS A LOST ART, which features artists such as Young Thug and Future. From the initial success of “Rascal” to the growth in popularity from his debut album, Rascals (RMR’s fanbase) have been emerging everywhere as they share a liking for music that makes you move.
When speaking to RMR about what motivates him to continue making music, he stated that he wants to hear more of the music he enjoys.
“There is a lane that could be filled with something totally different, something that scratches that itch, and I feel that if I want to hear that, who better to do it but me,” RMR said.
From taking inspiration from pop legends Michael Jackson and Prince to keeping his “ear to the streets” with New Music Friday playlists, RMR is navigating genreless music to its fullest potential.
With his latest single “Crazy,” RMR is now preparing everyone for summer tunes. In collaboration with highly decorated producer Ryan Lewis, RMR is giving fans something to dance to. There may not be a deep meaning beyond his lyrics, but the lively beat and catchy hook, along with RMR’s raspy, effortless voice, create a potential song of the summer.
Looking forward to the rest of 2023, RMR is excited to share another single with the Rascals. He welcomes the challenges that come with being a genre-bending artist. To the urban artists he may be a country-pop singer, while within the country scene, he may be viewed as the hip-hop guy. But whichever way you choose to classify him, RMR will most definitely break through the box you try to put him in.
