PIT STOP FEST 2015: Madlib, Maps & Atlases, and more

Pit Stop Music Festival is back. It debuted in 2010 as a nine-day stretch with artists such as Surfer Blood, Pomegranates, Husband & Wife, and Zero Boys. Presented by The Bishop, Spirit of 68, Bells Brewery, Jack Daniels, Brooklyn Brewery, and Visit Bloomington, this year’s fest runs from March 12th to March 14th across four venues: The Bishop Bar, The Back Door, The Bluebird, and Buskirk-Chumley Theater. Dubbed as the “SWSX for the Upland South,” Pit Stop offers a variation of indie rock, Americana, hip-hop and more.

Here are my picks for each night:

Thursday: Madlib (Buskirk-Chumley)

The first night, the legendary Madlib hits the stage at Buskirk-Chumley. The Stones Throw affiliated artist is known for his work as the sole producer behind the classic, Madvillainy with MF Doom, and Pinata, his stellar collaboration with Freddie Gibbs.

Friday: Sirius Blvck, Oreo Jones, and more (The Bishop)

On Friday, Indianapolis’ Sirius Blvck will be back at The Bishop after recently headlining a show with locals Birdbath to celebrate the release of his latest album, “Light In The Attic.”

The rest of the night will showcase some of the best acts from Indianapolis such as Oreo Jones, a standout rapper “who summons multiple musical personalities”, Andy G who “sounds like Andrew WK meets Melle Mel," and Party Lines, a nine piece “on the sonic spectrum between Jamariquai and Chromeo."

Saturday: Natural Child, White Moms, and Sunspots (The Back Door)

The third and final night is filled with great shows such as Murder By Death at The Bluebird, and Hiss Golden Messenger and local staple Mike Adams at His Honest Weight at The Bishop. The same night, Natural Child brings their woozy, southern rock to The Back Door.

White Moms is an Indianapolis “super group”, which features Kristen “KO” Newborn, Oreo Jones, Sharlene Birdsong of Thee Tsunamis, and Dimitri Morris of Heavy Hand. Local “sunpunkers,” Sunspots, will kick off the show.
