WIUX is hosting a benefit concert for Camp Kesem, a camp led by college students for young cancer patients. Peter Oren, Sunspots and Stellardaze are all set to perform. The concert is Friday (12/12) at Rachael's Cafe on Third Street. Entry is $3 or you can bring an item listed on the camp's wish list.

More than 3 million children live with a parent with cancer
Many more children have lost a parent to cancer. Camp Kesem is a non-profit student run organization that provides a year long support system and a free week long camp for children whose parents have or have had cancer. Here is why one counselor Heidi Brueckmann Kesems:
In my life I have seen cancer tear apart and affect too many people that I love. I have dealt with a sick parent and the fear of losing someone I love so much. I Kesem to alleviate some of this pain that our campers face in their lives. Simply put, my campers are my heroes. Being a part of CKIU has given me the amazing gift of being in the lives of these fantastic kids. I Kesem for the kids with unimaginable strength in the face of a terrifying disease. I Kesem for their parents who deserve peace of mind that their kids can just be carefree kids. I Kesem for my family. I Kesem for the magic. No one should face cancer alone and at CKIU no one has to. CKIU is a family and we work all year to give our kids the best year-long support system and week of camp that we can. We fill their lives with silly songs, tiedye, s'mores, friendship bracelets, cabin chats and a whole lot of CK love.
