Short Takes

ZakBerliner:

Miami (ranked them 9th): The Dolphins have been outstanding recently. Their defense has helped them win games or at least keep games close. Combine that with solid play from quarterback Ryan Tannehill, and I feel confident placing this team in my Top 10.

Tennessee (ranked them 24th): Though the Titans only have 2 wins, the majority of their losses have been by close margins. Their defense has played relatively well, and, albeit from a small sample size, quarterback Zach Mettenberger looks like a solid starter.

Josh Handszer:

New York Giants (ranked them 26th): Five interceptions, tons of injuries, a horrible o-line and a deserved 3-7 record. They’re done. Oh well, at least the G-men can try to crash the party for the Cowboys and Eagles in the coming weeks.

Arizona (ranked them 2nd): The more I watch this team, the more I like them going the distance in the postseason. However, one question remains: What do you do if you reach the Super Bowl with Drew Stanton?

Quinn Saturday:

Arizona (ranked them 1st): The Drew Stanton era has begun! It wasn’t pretty, but it was effective, and that’s all the offense needs to be as the defense is finally hitting its stride. After shifting players around due to early-season injuries, the defensive unit has finally found some consistency and is starting to excel. The highly touted secondary is shutting quarterbacks down, just like they did to Matthew Stafford when they held him to 183 yards and no touchdowns. If the defense can continue to this caliber of play and the offense can offer up two to three big plays a game, then expectations revert back to before Carson Palmer was injured.

Atlanta (ranked them 21st): I don’t think the Falcons are better than the Saints or deserving of a playoff spot, but I do think they will end up winning the terrible NFC South. The reason is that all four of their wins have come against the NFC South. Because the Falcons have beaten everyone in the division at least once, they will likely own all division tiebreakers at the end of the season in the event that tiebreakers are necessary. Hard to believe that this is possible for a team that had previously lost five straight and the best Vegas odds to have the first head coach fired.

Andrew Vailliencourt:

Denver (ranked them 6th): How come people can question Tom Brady when he has a few bad games, but can’t do the same for Peyton Manning? He’s been bad the past three games, throwing six interceptions, while his team lost twice. The only reason it wasn’t three straight losses because the Broncos got to play the Raiders after New England. Manning will be fine, just like Brady, but I don’t believe in Denver.

Houston (ranked them 18th): Everyone assumed the Colts would run away with the AFC South, but it’s going to be a lot closer race than what people expected. Behind the arm of Ryan Mallett, the Texans beat a good Browns team without Arian Foster. Houston has two games left against the Jaguars and one against the Titans. The Colts have an easy schedule too, but it will be interesting to see how things shake out.

Will DeWitt:

Denver (ranked them 4th): Losing to the Rams in Week 11, Denver had an off week to say the least. But injuries to Emmanuel Sanders, Julius Thomas and Monte Ball are the real loss. This game should be a minor blemish on an otherwise strong season by the Broncos.

Philadelphia (ranked them 9th): Flip, Flip, Flipadelphia! With that blowout loss to the Packers, Sanchez and the rest of the Eagles’ worlds were flipped upside down. Just goes to show that It’s Not Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Tori Ziege:

Green Bay (ranked them 3rd): Remember when Rodgers told Green Bay fans to R-E-L-A-X? Clearly, he knew something the rest of us didn’t. The Packers proved that last week’s Bears game was not a fluke by quickly turning one of the best match-ups of the weekend into a no contest. What does Rodgers see next in his crystal ball? A trip to the playoffs, for starters.

Denver (ranked them 4th): Sunday’s loss to the Rams is without a doubt the worst of the Peyton Manning era in Denver. To lose to the Rams is one thing, but to only score seven points? That’s unheard of in a Peyton Manning-led offense. The five-time MVP clearly had a tough day, but every quarterback does once in a while. What this really tells me is that the Broncos are still dependent on Manning. If he sinks, the ship is sinking with him.
