Angel Olsen @ The Bishop 5/5

On Monday, May 5th, singer-songwriter Angel Olsen will be gracing The Bishop bar (123 S. Walnut) with her presence for a performance, with doors for the 18+ show opening at 9 p.m. and the show starting soon thereafter. This will be her first time visiting Bloomington since the release of her latest album Burn Your Fire for No Witness this past February, which was received with widespread critical acclaim. Olsen, notable for her dynamic voice and broad range, spent the past year in Chicago perfecting her lo-fi brand of indie-folk with Cap’n Jazz’s Tim Kinsella. The St. Louis born singer then applied those, mixed with a twist of alternative country influence, to her newest album, serving as both her full band premiere as well as her debut with Jagjaguwar Records, a Bloomington-based label with an extensive roster of indie rock artists. Olsen's first album, Half Way Home, was released in 2012 on Bathetic Records to similar positive acclaim. A former collaborator with Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Olsen's powerful voice and captivating showmanship will make this a show not to be missed.

Olsen’s appearance at The Bishop also includes the Nashville-based country rock group Promised Land Sound and the prolific Indiana singer-songwriter Joseph O’Connell performing as Elephant Micah. Promised Land Sound released a self-titled debut LP in September 2013. Elephant Micah, a project O'Connell started in 2000, released its 13th album, Louder than Thou, in 2012. Both albums were released by North Carolina label Paradise of Bachelors and support the newer alternative country approach Olsen has taken in her songwriting.
