Our Top Five Most Anticipated Acts at CMJ 2014

This coming Tuesday, October 21, 2014 music lovers, college radio DJs, and many within the music industry will flock to Manhattan and Brooklyn for the 34th annual CMJ Music Marathon. Bands from across the world, some familiar faces and names but for many of them this will be there first time playing in the States. WIUX brings you the top five acts (in no particular order) we are most excited to see at this year’s festival:

1) Courtney Barnett– “History Eraser”

The Australian artist and her band have had a growing buzz since the release of The Double EP:A Sea Of Split Peas earlier this year. They are not new to the Music Marathon and return to the festival on October 22nd at Webster Hall.

2) Porches – “Headsgiving”

Described by many as "sad rock", Porches have been making tunes out of New York for several albums now with their most recent release, Slow Dance in The Cosmos. They hit CMJ on October 25th at Death by Audio.

3) Twin Peaks – “I Found A New Way”

These Chicago natives mix rock & pop in an oh-so satisfactory way especially on the group's latest album, Wild Onion. Find them them out at one of several showcases on October 22nd NME + Hate Hate Hate Records Party, October 23rd at the Communion Showcase, and October 24th at the Aquarium Drunkard Showcase.

4) Protomartyr – “Maidenhead”

This mix of garage rock and punk sprouts from the city of Detroit and Protomartyr isn't showing signs of slowing down after their Hardly Art debut, Under Color of Official Right. Catch the group rock out in Brooklyn at the Silent Barn on October 21st.

5) Doprah – “Stranger People”

After the recent release of their self-titled EP, the duo that makes up Doprah, New Zealand natives, Steven Marr and Indira Force have already gained a significant following. Doprah brings their intergalactic live show to a CMJ showcase near you at Baby's All Right on October 20th and at Webster Hall on October 20st.

These five artists are just a few of the hundreds that will be present this week at the Music Marathon and we look forward to the countless showcases and panel discussions CMJ has to offer. Stay tuned for updates throughout the week on all things CMJ via WIUX Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and right here on our Blog.
