Committees

Music

Special Events: The Special Events (SPEV) Committee aims to give each member hands-on experience with planning events from full scale concerts to small events such as movie screenings or game nights. We will go through the processes behind booking bands for Culture Shock and other events as well as answer any questions you may have! Also we are cool and we hang out periodically to talk music, bands, and anything else really.

Public Relations: Public Relations is the the committee that makes the station good-looking. I mean, really, really ridiculously good-looking. PR is responsible for letting the IU student body and the Bloomington community know about all of the great things that WIUX does in the most creative ways possible. PR committee work includes writing press releases and newsletters, teaming up with SPEV and Promotions to market station events, working on image campaigns, and eating lots of snacks. So join PR today for great work experience and even greater fun!

Promotions: Promotions works with Special Events and PR committee to ensure successful WIUX events. Specifically, we design posters, stickers, and other WIUX merchandise and ensure proper circulation of that merchandise.

Sales/Underwriting: Sales Committee offers great experience for anyone looking to improve professional speaking abilities, understanding of underwriting and advertizing, or even just to develop a mean handshake! Main responsibilities include getting in touch with Bloomington businesses, teaming up with the Sports Committee for sports event sponsorship, and bringing in funding to help create killer events like Pledge Drive and Culture Shock. You can even earn a commission for the sales you make!

News: News Committee meets every Monday at 7 PM at the station house!

Mobile DJ: Mobile DJ Committee books DJs for events around Bloomington and offers DJs who mix live sets a group to share new music and performance opportunities with. If you DJ events, you get paid for your time and get to play your own music!

Production

Sports: The Sports Committee offers those who are interested in sports the opportunity to broadcast live games, have a talk show, and learn about radio production. We broadcast IU football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, and the Little 500. Students can also produce sports content for the blog. This is a great way to get hands on experience with professional radio equipment and talk about sports.

Web Content: Web Content committee is in charge of regularly updating the blog with all things music and local culture. Committee members have the opportunities to write music reviews, preview and attend local concerts and receive press passes to cover music festivals; in the past we’ve covered Pitchfork, Lollapalooza and more. If you’re looking for a way to combine your passion for writing with an interest in music and Bloomington culture, the Web Content committee is the place for you.

Programming 99.1 FM & B-side: The Programming committee focuses on the WIUX on-air content. Its role is to help improve the and ensure the quality of our programming. Committee members will be asked to review shows to make sure the formats are being followed and to provide feedback to the DJs. This is a great committee to be involved in for those specifically interested in the on-air and programming side of radio.

Engineering: The WIUX Engineering committee focuses not only on the planning and set up of equipment for WIUX’s live concerts and events, but also takes care of running sound for these events while they are going on. The committee is also involved with the upkeep and building of the equipment in the station house, giving members hands on experience in electronics work and cable making.
