FIDLAR - Too

Released: 9/4/2015

6/7 starts

The LA punks, FIDLAR (aka F*** It Dog Life Is A Risk) have finally released their 2nd full-length record after two years of touring. Too is the follow up album to their self-titled LP, which sent FIDLAR from playing little bars to big indie rock/punk festivals such as Shaky Knees and Orion Fest. If you weren’t a fan of FIDLAR before, or if you had no idea who the hell they were, now is the time to jump on this brat-nosed, in your face, mosh your socks off, bandwagon.

The first album FIDLAR put out (back in 2013) introduced fans to the side of FIDLAR that partied their rumps off and abused many different kinds of substances. Too reveals the process of becoming sober after years of all that crazy ish. This theme of sobriety can be seen in the fifth track of album, titled “Sober.” Frontman Zac Carper sings,

“I figured out as I got older that life just sucks when you get sober. I figured out when I got sober that life just sucks when you get older.”

Other tracks that go along with the sober theme include "40Oz On Repeat", "Overdose", "Stupid Decisions", and "Bad Habits".

The recording of Too was a new process for FIDLAR because it was their first time that they hired a producer. They worked with producer Jay Joyce, who has worked with artists such as The Wallflowers, The Warren Brothers and Cage the Elephant. The addition of a producer brought a unique aspect of every song synching together on the LP.

One of the greatest features of this album is the music videos that come with it. FIDLAR has released a number of videos for songs such as "40oz On Repeat", "West Coast", "Drone", and "Leave Me Alone".

So far "40oz On Repeat" has been the most popular of these videos, and it definitely deserves to be. The video features the members of FIDLAR (Carper, Elvis Kuehn, Max Kuehn, and Brandon Schwartzel) half making fun of and half paying homage to music videos they grew up too. Some of the impersonations include Oasis, the Beastie Boys, Britney Spears, Weezer, and Green Day. My personal favorite is their take on Britney’s “Hit Me Baby One More Time.”

Overall, Too is a record that could work for any moment in your day-to-day life. Whether you are pissed off, ready to party, or feeling a little angst, FIDLAR will be there to support you.
