Mysteryland 2015: Can't Miss Acts

This Memorial Day weekend Bethel, NY will play host to some of the hottest acts in electronic music as Mysteryland US takes place on the same grounds as historic 1969 Woodstock Festival. Decades later, guitars have been traded in for CDJs and flower headbands will be found at Kygo's set instead of Janis Joplin's. WIUX will be getting you ready for this one of a kind festival in its second U.S. edition with comprehensive coverage! Here are some acts that festival goers will not want to miss.

Prodigy Turned Superstar

The man was the first DJ to win all three major DJ competitions (DMC, ITF and Vestax), winning some as early as age 15. The man was Kanye West's first touring DJ. The man has over five million Soundcloud followers. So, I guess legend is more fitting of a title than man at this point for A-Trak. His unique blend of electronic and hip-hop, turntable skills and catalog of hits make the Fool's Gold boss a must see act.

How Did He Get Here?

How much progress can an artist make in a year? ILOVEMAKONNEN might be establishing a new, astonishingly impressive answer. For reference, raise your hand if in May of 2014 you had heard of ILOVEMAKONNEN. I would safely wager that 99.9% of our hands remained by our sides. Then these things happened:

"I Don't Sell Molly No More" became a viral hit.
Drake hopped on a remix of "Tuesday".
Makonnen churned out a number of tracks with Atlanta's hottest producers such as Mike Will Made It, Sonny Digital and Metro Boomin.

Now Makonnen is a household name in the hip-hop community and his off kilter style of rap is suddenly in style. His presence at electronic heavy lineups such as Mysterland's should show how far this ATL native has come in just a year's time.

Set You Most Likely Stumbled Upon and Ended Up Staying For

Despite releasing his wonderful Cloud City EP being released at the end of last year and scoring big with remixes of Flume & Chet Faker, Snakehips and most recently Alesso, Sweater Beats is still finding himself near the bottom of most festival billings. Don't expect him to be there for long. The NY based producer's penchant for soul-infused future bass make him one of the hottest up-and-comers in the current electronic landscape.

Most Unique Live Show

At just 22 years of age, it feels like Porter Robinson has left an impact on the genre that can not be overstated. At 18, Robinson released his utterly massive debut Spitfire (which crashed Beatport's servers upon release) and established himself as a force with tracks such as "Language" and "Spitfire". Robinson's latest album Worlds finds him crafting a much more vulnerable, heavily Japanese influenced product that maintains all of the melodic brilliance fans have become accustomed to. As far as his live show goes, Robinson has exclusively played his own tracks while providing live instrumentation and vocals on the Worlds Tour. Tie together the live aspects of the show with breathtaking visuals and you have more than a show, you have an experience. Porter Robinson's experience is one that can not be missed at Mysteryland.

The King

Diplo. The man is more than a DJ/producer, this man is a mogul. In the past year alone, he has collaborated with the likes of Madonna, Nikki Minaj, Sia, Ty Dolla $ign, scored a Billboard chart topping song via "Where Are U Now" (his and Skrillex's collaboration with Justin Bieber), and his Major Lazer cartoon has made its way on the airwaves of FX. All of this without even a mention that his label, Mad Decent, is thriving and boasts a roster that is full of electronic music's largest acts. Though he says that his focus will be shifted away from Diplo and on to Major Lazer, festival goers will be able to catch Wes Pentz in his most recognizable role as Diplo this Memorial Day Weekend.
