Music For Your Monday

Music for your Monday is back and better than ever! Maybe. Maybe not. We will see how it goes. So here we are in 2015 with a ton of great music to look forward to from some of my favorite bands and artists from Kanye to Death Cab to Modest Mouse and even Beck is apparently coming out with an album before summer. Wow!!!!!!! Ok time for some music to get us through the third week of the semester. Only four more weeks until midterms :/

Do you have a crush on someone? Great! Now listen to this song and become even more confused about your feelings! If you don't have a crush on someone, you can still enjoy this super cute and catchy song. The lyrics are pretty cheesy and simple but the super chill melody and beat make it sound like a spring breeze. That more poetic then I had intended.

This is "Black Sun." It's a new song from Death Cab for Cutie. Have you heard they're coming out with a new album on March 31? Sometimes when I get really excited about something I speak in monotone because I literally cannot express how happy and excited I am. This is one of those times.

If you haven't heard this song yet then stop right here and listen to it three times. "Kansas City" is the leading track off of the Basement Tapes, which is basically some really amazing and incredible artists recreating music that Bob Dylan wrote one summer in the basement of a house by Woodstock. The entire album is absolutely beautiful and if you have the chance, you have to watch the documentary that chronicles how the album was made and recorded. It's as close as you can get to being in the head of a musical genius. Unless you are a music genius.

The new Decemberists album is pretty meh, but I've been really into this song since it was released a week ago, before the rest of the record came out. It's a very layered track and vocally it's as good as the Decemberists get.

Modest Mouse has been playing this song live for a while and I suspect that their album will feature a lot of concert staples that have just never been formally released. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Isaac Brock just has such a unique voice that you either love or hate (how you can hate it I don't know) but "Coyotes" is a lot more calm than most of the band's discography. Not that I'll assume that this track represents the rest Strangers to Ourselves, especially since "Lampshades on Fire" is just a crazy good classic Modest Mouse-sounding song.

Not trying to bring everyone down, but Daughter is just so good. Sounding like a more vocal-driven version of the XX, this track is melancholy but sometimes that's just what you need.

This song has been on Music for Your Monday before but I don't really care. Listen to it. Listen to it again. I don't know why it's so good. Probably because it's hard for me to get past how awesome it is when I'm listening to it.

Come back next Monday for more great music! I promise no repeats.
